Meet Gary Jones, the newest member of our Architecture team in Burlington!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…
Gary: I live in Galesburg with my second wife, Debbie and we have two dogs (Xena and Remington). I have one daughter from my previous marriage and two stepsons, and I have five grandsons and one granddaughter.
As for special interests and hobbies, I’m an avid outdoorsman. I loves the outdoors and spending as much time as I can outside, whether it is sitting in my own yard, working on projects, or just hanging out on the deck or in the pool. I live for hunting in the fall…camping, fishing, hiking and metal detecting whenever I can. I also play a little golf when I can get away…or I “try” to play golf, anyway.
I proudly served in the Army for ten years in Field Artillery and five years as a Private Military Contractor and have traveled to Honduras, South Korea, Japan, Kuwait, and U.A.E.
Q: Why did you want to work in the field of Architecture?
Gary: When I was young, I would visit my mother’s office where she was a graphic designer. Watching her work in drafting sparked my interest. From there and throughout high school, I dreamed of getting into Architecture. So, I went to college and graduated with a drafting and design degree. Then I started my career in the civil engineering industry, working as a rod man and draftsman. After which, I was able to be hired on with an architectural firm.
Q: Is there a project you’ve worked on thus far in your career that you’re proudest of?
Gary: I would like to say all of them…haha. If I have to pick favorites, both happen to be at Bradley University: the Women’s Basketball Arena and the Markin Family Student Recreation Center.
Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?
Gary: I would say take pride in your work, go beyond what you know, and learn more than what you should know.
Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?
Gary: I chose Klingner mostly for the atmosphere. Even from the day I interviewed for the position, I got the impression of working with down-to-earth and fun people. I believe teams are more successful when coworkers easily get along and enjoy working together.
Q: What is your favorite hobby?
Gary: My favorite hobby, beyond outdoor activities and archery, would have to be metal detecting. A few years back, I came across videos of metal detecting and it really caught my interest, especially when they would find old coins and relics. I bought one and have been loving it ever since. Besides old coins and Indian heads, I’ve also found some really unique relics dating as far back as the civil war.
