Meet Storm Lawrence, the newest member of our Land Surveying Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Storm: My name is Storm. I was born and raised in Galesburg, IL, and it’s where I currently reside. Most of my free time I enjoy with my 2-year-old son, Archie. We love going to local parks and once a week he attends swim lessons. Outside of being a land survey technician, I also own and operate a small landscaping company, and I maintain approximately 20 properties within the Galesburg area. I also volunteer coach youth sports during the fall and winter seasons at my local YMCA.

Q: Why did you want to become a Technician?

Storm: I was living in Franklin, TN, for a period of time and my friend’s father was a licensed land surveyor. He let me work for his company as an assistant / helper in the field. Within that two month period, I really gained a great perspective of the job. I love working outdoors and in a career where you have to pay great attention to detail. Land surveying is going to be a wonderful career for me.

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?

Storm: If you are entry-level but have high expectations for yourself, as I do, be prepared to be humbled by the learning process. Be very respectful and do not get frustrated. The learning process is long and needs to be taken seriously and in great detail. Also, understand that your mentors are not expecting you to learn everything overnight.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?

Storm: My last company did not have the best working environment all around. In just my first week, I already feel very welcomed. Klingner also has immaculate facilities and work vehicles for me to use, which is amazing!

Q: What motivates you to work hard?

Storm: I am motivated to work hard by my son and the future of my family. I am sure that most people say this when they have others that depend on them. Specifically for me, I did not have that same support growing up, so I have such a strong desire to work as hard as I can. I want to be sure that my son will always feel loved and supported in many ways.

Q: If you could be any animal, what would you be?

Storm: I have always wanted to be an eagle. I am a sucker for amazing views, and birds have access to the best views possible. I can only imagine how incredible it would be to see the world from above.
