Meet Marcy Phillips, the newest member of our Land Surveying Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Marcy: I was born and raised in Quincy and now live in Camp Point on 18 acres with my husband, Randy; our dog, Fin; and our cat, Khan. We recently bought a neighboring property and have been working to update it to use it as a rental property. For enjoyment, I’d rather be birding outdoors or relaxing on a beach than any place else.

Q: Why did you want to become a technician?

Marcy: I wanted an occupation that would get me outdoors and in different surroundings. I also love Quincy and therefore am interested in development projects in and around town.

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?

Marcy: If you can handle the weather, then this job is for you – go for it! I’m still new to this job, but I would strongly encourage someone who feels they are interested in field work. I thought I would give this career a shot, and I am very glad that I did.

Q: What section of the bookstore / library is your favorite?

Marcy: You will probably find me in the “Reference” or “How To” section of any bookstore or library. I enjoy researching things before I attempt something new. I really enjoy working on tasks and projects; I’m a very motivated person!

Q: What is one hobby that you’re great at, and what is one hobby that you’re not so great at, but love anyway?

Marcy: I am not sure I’d say I’m great at a hobby, but I will mention two that I love. One hobby I love is photography, specifically photographing birds. The second hobby I love, but am not great at, is gardening. I’ll plan all winter long, but when spring comes I won’t follow any of my plans at all.

Q: If you could pick up a skill instantly, what would it be?

Marcy: I would love to build furniture from log to final piece or take raw metal to a completed piece.
