Meet Geoffrey Thopmson, the newest member of our Water / Wastewater team in Quincy, IL!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Geoffrey: I am originally from Kansas City, so, needless to say, I am a huge Chiefs and Royals fan. I attended the University of Missouri where I met my wife, Kourtney. I love spending time with her and our new baby boy.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the types of projects you work on as an engineer?

Geoffrey: Collaboration has always been the most enjoyable part of projects. Whether that is within the company, with the client, or from elsewhere, it is always important to get a different perspective. It helps us see things we were blind to, and it gets the entire team’s buy-in.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring engineers?

Geoffrey: Be open to exploring the multiple disciplines within the civil engineering world. I’ve been fortunate to be exposed to several different projects and roles throughout my career thus far. Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone.

Q: If you could pick up any skill instantly, what would it be?

Geoffrey: I would love the ability to speak multiple languages. I think it would be neat to communicate with others in their native languages.

Q: What was your first job?

Geoffrey: I umpired baseball before I could drive. I love sports, so it was a perfect fit.

Q: What is your favorite family recipe?

Geoffrey: My mom is Italian, so anything she makes is great, but I’d have to say her homemade sauce and meatballs are my favorite.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

Geoffrey: Christmas. I love everything about it: time with family, great food, and even Christmas music!
