Meet Ryan Stonecipher, PE, the newest member of our MEP Team!
Q: Why did you want to become an Engineer?
Ryan: I grew up around bicycles at my dad’s triathlon shop and always thought mechanical assemblies were really interesting – cables to operate brakes and derailleurs, bearings to let wheels spin on axles, spokes under tension pulling wheel rims to the right radial and axial distances from the hub, gears, and a chain to transmit power. Engineering feels like a way to make a living by understanding problems with and coming up with solutions for physical systems.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the types of projects you work on?
Ryan: I like projects with problems that don’t have obvious solutions at first. Planning approaches to find the root causes is exciting to me and sometimes figuring out the simplest solutions to solve those problems are the most rewarding. It is really satisfying to see clients in spaces that meet their expectations and suit their needs.
Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?
Ryan: I would recommend finding mentors who encourage you to never give up. Good peers will guide you through challenges, and in this field you will always be problem solving. These peers will also help you find your niche in this wide industry. It will also be rewarding for your peers to watch you thrive and grow in your profession.
Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?
Ryan: I was looking for a long-term position at a stable company where I could take on more responsibilities and help newer engineers grow into the work rather than just filling a seat to complete tasks. Talking with Bob Venvertloh and John Neyens, I felt like Klingner would be a company to retire with, rather than being just a stepping stone within my career path.
Q: What is your personal motto?
Ryan: I’ve never been guilty of lacking convictions. I feel like if something is worth caring about, it’s okay to have strong feelings about it.
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
Ryan: My favorite holiday is April Fool’s Day. I am thrilled to have started work with Klingner in May because I’ll have a full eleven months to determine who I am going to surprise and how.
