Welcome: Jackie Dowil-Totten
Meet Jackie Dowil-Totten, the newest member of our Architecture Department in Quincy!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself...
Jackie: I was born and raised in Hannibal, MO, attended Holy Family until 8th grade, and then went on to attend Hannibal High School. I was part of the Hannibal High School dance team, and I ran track and field. I attended the University of Missouri (where both of my parents went - MIZ!), then I went on to obtain my Masters of Architecture at SIU Carbondale. I currently live in Shelbina, MO, with my soon-to-be husband. In my free time, I coach the South Shelby dance team and love hanging out with my family.
Q: Why did you want to become an Architect?
Jackie: As a child, I was always sketching rooms and designing floor plans. One day my mom (an engineer) told me that I could actually do that as a career when I grew up. That was it - I was in love with the idea and have always had a goal to be an architect.
Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?
Jackie: Klingner has a lot of diverse projects, and they include every member of their team in every step of the design and construction process. Even though it is a larger firm, there is a great close-knit environment and a very supportive team behind it.
Q: Is there a project you've worked on thus far in your career that you're proudest of?
Jackie: I was part of the Copperstone Business Park in Columbia, MO. The park includes various offices, a coffee shop, and townhomes. The project was heavily influenced by the surrounding neighborhood.
Q: What is one little known fact about you?
Jackie: A little known fact about me is that I was a Becky ambassador for the town of Hannibal. It was one of the best experiences of my life, not to mention that I love Mark Twain and his stories!
Q: Where is the last place you've traveled and what did you find interesting about it?
Jackie: The last place I traveled to was Paris, France. I loved sightseeing and analyzing the classic, historic architecture. I stayed with a local family and was able to gain special insight as to where I should visit and what I should see while visiting the Country.
