Welcome: Alex Keneipp
Meet Alex Keneipp, the newest member of our Structural Engineering team in Quincy, IL!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself...
Alex: I was born and raised in Columbia, MO, although I have several family members from western Illinois. I attended Mizzou and graduated with a civil engineering degree, emphasizing in structural design. In my free time, I enjoy staying active by biking, hiking, and running.
Q: What is the most exciting project you worked on at Mizzou?
Alex: At Mizzou I was part of Steel Bridge Club and 3D Printing Club. In steel bridge team, I learned how to apply constructability to designs. In 3D Printing Club, I helped make a 3-Dimensional map of campus that is going to help visually-impaired students navigate their way around Mizzou. Buildings were modeled using SolidWorks and printed using an SLA printer. The map is complete with a key, building and street names, and braille.
I also designed a 3-story building made of concrete and steel. It was a good step towards my first job as I was applying designs to a real-world scenario.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Structural Engineering?
Alex: Working on large-scale projects that benefit many people. I get a sense of pride when I see a project I put a lot of work into being used.
Q: Name one place you've visited that has made an impact on you:
Alex: During a study abroad in Europe, I got the chance to hike the Swiss Alps in Switzerland. I was awestruck by the beautiful landscape and massive peaks. I would also like to see Yellowstone someday.
Q: Who is your hero and why?
Alex: My grandpa is my hero because he was one of the hardest-working people I know.
