Wastewater Treatment Plant Emergency Repairs
A spring storm in 2013 flooded the gallery of the City of Quincy Waste Water Treatment Facility rendering the electrical system inoperable. The City of Quincy retained Klingner and Richard’s Electric Motor Company to provide emergency design and construction services to return the plant to operation. Temporary electrical equipment was installed and Klingner initiated design of the permanent electrical system replacement.
Klingner expedited the design and completed plans for the $4.1 million project in 25 weeks. The contract for the permanent electrical modifications was awarded to Brown Electric Construction Company. The two low bids for the contract were within 0.7% of each other. The permanent electrical system modifications included raising all critical electrical equipment above the 500-year flood level and providing redundant power sources and back-up generators.
The project was completed on schedule in 12 months with change orders totaling only 2.6% of the original project cost.
