Quincy Park District: Lincoln Park Master Plan

Quincy, IL

Klingner provided master planning services for a new park, Lincoln Park, in Quincy, IL.  The property located at 1231 Bonansinga Drive contains the Quincy Park District business offices and recreation center.  After moving to the property, the Park District dedicated the site as Lincoln Park, commemorating Quincy’s connections to Abraham Lincoln.  Several master plan options were developed along with opinions of probable cost.

The selected concept included the following:

  • Skate Park
  • Informal Soccer Field
  • Amphitheater
  • Large Shelter
  • Restrooms
  • Universal Playground
  • Trails
  • Fitness/Exercise Equipment
  • Parking
  • Scenic Overlook
  • Other amenities

Since the property resembles the shape of Illinois, the selected concept utilized the perimeter trails to emphasize the shape of the state.  The seven (7) Lincoln Debate sites were identified in their appropriate locations within the “State.”  These sites were used as wayfinding system for the new park.  Key park features were located at or near the debate sites.
