Project Summary

Klingner provided Phase II Engineering services for the extension of IL 255 in Madison County, IL. This section of full access control freeway is 3.4 miles in length, beginning at Seminary Road and ending at US 67.

Phase II work included route and land surveys; Right-of-Way plat preparation; cross sections; geometric studies; pavement, interchange, and drainage design; signalized intersection; traffic control plans; TS&L plans; final roadway plans; and final structure plans.

The project included a total of six contracts:

  • Contract No. 76323: The extension of IL 255 from west of Seminary Road and extending 3.4 miles northwesterly to US 67 in Godfrey consists of new 4-lane, full access-controlled pavement; diamond interchanges at Humbert Road and IL 111, which included entrance and exit ramp pavement; a 467’ triple 10’x9’ concrete box culvert with 65’ of fill; 500,000 cubic yards of furnished excavation; ditches, survey, and development for proposed Right-of-Way for 130 parcels; and de-watering of a 2-acre lake.
  • Contract No. 76706: Construction of a curved structure to carry US 67 over and onto IL 255 in Godfrey.
  • Contract No. 76635: Construction of 2 new grade separation structures carrying IL 255 over Humbert Road. A total of 0.7 miles of Humbert Road was reconstructed, encompassing both an urban and rural section that included raised medians, turning lanes, traffic signals, storm sewer, ADA compliant crossings, service drives, and sideroad reconstruction.
  • Contract No. 76624: Construction of 2 new grade separation structures carrying IL 255 over IL 111. A total of 0.6 miles of IL 111 was reconstructed and included raised medians, turning lanes, traffic signals, drainage improvements, railroad crossing, entrances, and service drives.
  • Contract No. 76626: Reconstruction of 0.6 miles of Wenzel Road on a new alignment and construction of a new grade separation structure carrying Wenzel Road over IL 255, which included ditches, entrances, service drives, and drainage structures.
  • Contract No. 76634: Construction of 2 new grade separation structures to carry IL 255 over the Union Pacific Railroad and the Kansas City Southern Railroad, which included the use of settlement platforms to monitor the 200,000 cubic yards of embankment.
