Hannibal Regional Hospital: Walking Trails & Park
Klingner provided professional design services for Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Healthy Way Walking Trail.
Patients, visitors, and the public alike can choose between a 1 mile loop and a 1.65 mile option that winds through the hospital campus. Designed in two phases, Phase I brings the trail along Shinn Lane and connects the Shinn Lane Medical Building with Hospital Drive. Phase II ends northeast of the hospital and connects to existing campus sidewalks. At the north end of the trail sits Hospital Park, a peaceful resting area for trail users.
Accessibility was of the utmost importance when creating the trail. To accommodate the wide variety of users at different mobility levels, care was taken to incorporate gentle slopes, curb ramps, and clear pedestrian crossings at roadways and entrances.
Native limestone outcroppings, walls, and signs were designed to provide a unique identity for the hospital and highlight key areas of the campus.
