Meet Zachary Carlson, the newest member of our Water Resources Engineering Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Zach: I grew up in Galesburg, IL, and recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Q: Why did you want to become an Engineer?

Zach: My dad is a civil engineer, and I always knew I wanted to go into engineering after high school. Engineering seemed like the most intriguing major I could find, so that’s what I went with.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the types of projects you work on?

Zach: There are many complex and unique ways to design that revolve around water. I also enjoy the fact that the work done with these projects will do a lot to benefit their respective communities.

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?

Zach: Engineering and civil engineering cover such broad aspects that it is okay to not quite know exactly what area you might want to work in when you get started. You have plenty of time to figure out what aspects you enjoy most.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?

Zach: I wanted to stay in the area I grew up in, and after a great internship experience with Klingner, I knew this was the company that I wanted to further develop my career.

Q: What was your favorite subject in school?

Zach: My favorite subject in school was always physics. I found it so fascinating to combine math and science, and the experiments were always the best.
