Meet Skyler Troutman, the newest member of our Environmental Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Skyler: I was raised in Danville, IA where I graduated high school. I became very community involved during my time at Southeastern Community College, where I served as student body president. I moved onto Iowa State University, where I graduated with a degree in Environmental Science. Growing up, I remember most nights falling asleep in the driver’s seat of a stock car, as I watched my dad, a lifelong mechanic and racecar driver, build engines. For several seasons I raced stock cars, and you can still find me at 34 Raceway many Saturday nights. I’m an avid runner, Busch latte enthusiast, and a Kansas City Chiefs fan. I’ll take anyone on in fantasy football!

Q: Why did you want to become an Engineer?

Skyler: I have always found that working in the environmental field is very gratifying. It’s very satisfying to watch your efforts yield very tangible results that bring out positive impacts for the environment, businesses, and the community.

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?

Skyler: I would tell them to never be afraid to ask questions. Environmental work is a very broad field – no one knows it all! Also, on that note, students in environmental sciences should consider all of their classes of equal pertinence; everything will come in handy at some stage in your career.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?

Skyler: Getting a call back from Klingner was one of the most exciting moments in my career! Klingner has become very well known and respected in the area, and getting a chance to work on the wide-array of projects they are involved in, is awesome!

Q: If you could pick up one skill instantly, what would it be?

Skyler: If I could pick up one skill instantly, it would probably be to become a chess grandmaster! That, or I would want to be an expert juggler…am I allowed to choose both?

Q: Would you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?

Skyler: I would probably consider myself an “extra-extrovert”!

Q: Do you love or hate rollercoasters?

Skyler: I hate them but I don’t want to look like a wimp either…so I’d probably still go on them.
