Meet Rod Martin, PE, the newest member of our Water / Wastewater Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Rod: I grew up in Hunter Martin & Associates Consulting Firm and eventually joined the firm after graduating from college in 1974. Eventually, I became President and stock holder of the company, and I later sold the firm to Shawnee Consulting Engineers in August of 2016. I really enjoy soccer and coached youth leagues for over 15 years; coaching teams from young ages to high school. I am active in my Catholic church and school, and I enjoy playing rhythm guitar in a bluegrass band. I have three sons and five grandchildren.

Q: Why did you want to become an Engineer?

Rod: I was introduced to engineering and surveying at a very young age by my dad. During my childhood, I worked at the firm through summers and after school for many years.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the types of projects you work on?

Rod: I really love explaining solutions to complex problems to our clients. I also specifically enjoy coming up with hydraulic calculations to solve distribution issues.

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone choosing the same career?

Rod: If you want to be in the engineering field, be prepared to work very hard and to expect to work some long hours.

Q: If you could visit any place in the world, what would it be?

Rod: If I could visit any place in the world, I’d love to travel to Rome and see the Vatican and the many cathedrals.

Q: Are you related (or distantly related) to anyone famous?

Rod: I am related to two that I am aware of:  1) Ann Coulter – writer, author of books and has had guest appearances on Fox. 2) Jack Martin – played dobro for Lester Flatt and played bass for Bill Monroe. He appeared on Grand Old Opry in 1972-1973.
