Meet Jonathan Massner, the newest member of our Mechanical / Electrical / Plumbing Team!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Jonathan: I was born and raised in Southeast Iowa, graduating from Mediapolis High School in 2016. After that, I earned my electrical engineering degree from Iowa State University and worked as a test engineer for an aerospace company in Cedar Rapids, IA. Recently, I moved back to the Mediapolis area to be closer to my roots. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, staying active, music, and being involved in my local church.

Q: Why did you want to become an Engineer?

Jonathan: I have always enjoyed researching and trying to figure out what makes things work. Math always came fairly easy for me in high school, so I decided to pursue an engineering career.

Q: Is there a project you’ve worked on thus far in your career that you’re proudest of?

Jonathan: While working as a test engineer, I helped to develop software and hardware for an automated test system for the radio system used on the P-8 aircraft. It was neat to learn about the radio and how to optimize automated test stations.

Q: Do you play any sports?

Jonathan: I enjoy playing sports as a hobby. I play basketball, soccer, racquet sports, and disc golf, but I always love learning to play new sports. In recent years, my favorite sport to play has been pond hockey in the winters.

Q: What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

Jonathan: I love to travel! One trip I went to Zion National Park and hiked to the top of Angel’s Landing. The trail itself is a little scary with very high drop offs on either side, but adding the December snow and ice made it much more intense. Thankfully, I had some Yaktrax to help with traction and the reward was enjoying beautiful views at the summit.

Q: What is one little known fact about you?

Jonathan: I have cochlear implants in both ears, getting one in 2014 and the other in 2020. I was born with normal hearing, and it deteriorated through my younger years to the point where I am now. I’m able to hear almost everything with my implants on, and I can hear practically nothing with them off. At night, I take them off for some peace and quiet while I sleep.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?

Jonathan: I have been very impressed with the people at Klingner and wanted the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. I also desire to be involved in the development of local communities and can see myself accomplishing that here.
