Geotechnics has named B. Joseph Sick, PE, its new Geotechnical / Construction Materials Testing Department Manager.

Sick is a long-time employee of Geotechnics with over 25 years of experience. In this new role, Sick will oversee the full-service laboratory in Hannibal, MO; a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-validated laboratory in Burlington, IA; and a staff of engineers and technicians performing geotechnical and environmental drilling investigations and construction materials testing services in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.

The promotion comes after Ronald W. Craven, PE, retired from the position in January. Craven will remain with Geotechnics part-time.

Over the past three years, Geotechnics has undertaken over 500 geotechnical drilling and construction materials testing projects. Sick provided engineering and material testing services for many of these, which were performed for various public, private, industrial, and governmental clients. His work has delivered crucial subsurface soil data and geotechnical engineering for building, structure, and roadway designs, as well as maintained quality control standards and performance requirements during construction.

Sick belongs to the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri Governmental Affairs Committee. In addition to holding professional licensure in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois, Sick has earned multiple certifications in geotechnical and environmental drilling, subsurface investigation, soil and concrete testing, and more. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri – Rolla.
