Q: Tell us a bit about yourself:
Russell: I was born and raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington Community High School. I completed multiple associates degrees from Southeastern Community College. Later I transferred to Iowa State University where I received my bachelors degree in architecture, with a secondary major in environmental studies and a minor in digital media. While attending Iowa State, I studied abroad in Rome and traveled around Europe. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting. I also enjoy photography, carpentry and construction, and repairing and restoring cars.
Q: Why did you want to become an architect?
Russell: I have always wanted to be part of designing and shaping spaces that people use on a daily basis. I have also always had a passion for construction and building things, so I thought architecture would be a good blend of design and construction experiences.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the types of projects you work on?
Russell: I really enjoy that there is a large range of project types and complexities and that there always seems to be a new unique challenge to discuss and address. I also enjoy listening and communicating with my clients to understand their needs and assist with developing solutions to meet their goals.
Q: Why did you decide to join the Klingner team?
Russell: I decided to join Klingner because I love being part of a local design team that has a special part in the development and growth of our communities, as well as the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects.
Q: What is one little known fact about you?
Russell: I drove a Ferrari F430 Scuderia around Modena, Italy, and it had up to 250 km/h.
Q: What’s the tallest building / location you’ve ever been to?
Russell: I have hiked to the top of Baldy Mountain (12,441 feet). It’s the highest peak in the Cimarron Range in New Mexico, which is part of the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains.
