  • Visit sites to inspect, observe, and document potential sources of pollution, environmental hazards, and / or regulatory violations.
  • Accurately collect samples of air, water, soil, or hazardous materials on-site to assess environmental conditions.
  • Use, calibrate, and maintain special equipment to measure pollutants and contaminants.
  • Gather relevant measurements and data for assessment purposes.
  • Monitor and assess environmental conditions to ensure compliance with regulations and promote sustainable practices.
  • Process and interpret data using computer software.
  • Write clear and concise reports and summaries of the tests performed, the findings, and recommendations.
  • Investigate potential asbestos hazards and translate field-collected data into a report.
  • Complete field investigations and administrative tasks for leaking underground storage tank projects.
  • Accomplish tasks required for permitting within Illinois and Missouri.
  • Collaborate with engineers to support environmental protection efforts and ensure that clients are operating in environmentally safe and sustainable manners while following department and office standards and procedures.
  • Implement Klingner safety protocol within the field.

NOTE: This position is full-time and will be part of the Environmental Department.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-3+ years of work experience, with at least 2 years working in related environmental work is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental field is a plus, but not required.
  • A license, or work towards obtaining a license, as a Professional Engineer, Registered Geologist, or Certified Industrial Hygienist is a plus.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and / or Civil3D is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to walk and carry equipment through rough terrain.
  • Candidates should enjoy a broad interest in environmental work and love working outdoors in various elements.
  • Ability to prioritize successfully, organize, and perform work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to use and maintain various tools, such as sampling and monitoring equipment, and software.
  • Ability to meticulously record and analyze data.
  • Analytical skills; attention to detail in inspections, testing, documentation, and reporting; and a commitment to environmental stewardship are essential qualities for this role.
