Further Your Passion for Design

As an emerging interior designer at Klingner, you will be an integral member of our Architecture Department beginning on day one. You will receive strong mentorship focused on fostering creativity, technical expertise, and a growing passion for pushing the boundaries of the built environment.


  • Express curiosity about the world of design, materials, and products as well as the industry at large.
  • Manipulate basic design elements such as spatial layout, color, light, texture, and scale.
  • Perform site visits to confirm conditions and verify electrical and architectural dimensions.
  • Perform interior design assignments that include interpreting clients’ program and needs, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Analyze product research and manufacturer information and identify material selections.
  • Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fixtures, equipment (FF&E); color palettes; and lighting.
  • Prepare “look books” with furniture and finish selections to improve customer visualization
  • Generate design with 3D models, Revit, Enscape, Sketchup or other software, creating digital 3D views to communicate design concepts.
  • Participate in preparing contract documents, including but not limited to floor plans and details, reflected ceiling plans, millwork design, furniture layouts, finish, materials and furniture specifications, and schedules.
  • Keep open communication within the team and with the designated team leader.
  • Take an active role in crafting client and non-client design presentations and prepare corresponding materials.
  • Act as the key design interface with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators.
  • Communicate with subcontractors as required for wall treatments, flooring specifications, ceiling, lighting, workstation electrical, or built-in furniture options.
  • Take increasing ownership on tasks within project teams and studio activities.
  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts, when required.

  • A professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in interior design.
  • Strong educational and workplace experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, visualization, and graphic software; Revit and / or Enscape strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of financial aspects of running a design project on time and on budget is desirable.
  • Exhibits strong lead design capabilities.
  • Preparing for NCIDQ.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), is a plus.
  • Qualified and interested candidates should submit a resume and work samples. Include your resume and a compact, representative sample project of your work that details the role you played on the project (no larger than 5MB).

NOTE: Portfolios must be submitted for all design positions (Architecture, Interiors, Planning, etc). Interest Forms without work samples will not be reviewed. Portfolios should be one PDF attachment, 10-20 pages, maximum 5 MB. Submit portfolios as part of your Interest Form in the section where you are asked to upload your Resume or CV.
