As an Asbestos Air Sampling Professional, you’ll meaningfully impact the health and wellness of communities across Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois. Your work will be divided between fieldwork and in-office laboratory testing. If you have asbestos experience, enjoy visiting various construction sites, and value testing accuracy, this is the ideal role for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform asbestos project management and air sampling on Illinois public school abatement projects.
  • Conduct asbestos air sampling and project management on public and private projects in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri.
  • Complete thorough on-site inspections to document the presence of asbestos-containing materials and identify potential hazards.
  • Analyze air samples and data to write accurate reports outlining inspection and testing results.
  • Oversee projects to ensure work is completed within budget and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure asbestos projects adhere to all local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Assist with asbestos building inspections as well as complete negative exposure assessments and other environmental-related projects, as needed.
  • Maintain, clean, upkeep, calibrate, and assess the safe working condition of equipment at required intervals or usage.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of tests, findings, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate and clearly communicate with other staff members, clients, key stakeholders, and various construction team representatives.
  • Follow safety procedures to protect yourself, workers, and building occupants.
  • Provide construction materials testing (i.e. concrete, soil, aggregate, etc.) and / or construction observation support at construction sites and in the laboratory, as required, according to industry standards.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Travel: Travel is required. Candidates should be able to work out of town for the duration of a project. Some projects may be 2-3 hours outside of office location; therefore, some overnights out of town may be required.
  • Hours: Although this position has standard working hours when possible, this position is more task oriented relative to time oriented and requires flexibility as to beginning and ending times on many days throughout the year. This position is full-time. Seasonal overtime pay is likely and should be anticipated during the busy construction seasons throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Licensure as an Asbestos Project Manager and Air Sampling Professional is preferred.
  • If not yet licensed as an Asbestos Project Manager and Air Sampling Professional, the following is preferred:
    • 2,080 hours of on-site working experience in building construction projects, or 520 hours of on-site working experience assisting a licensed project manager on asbestos abatement projects. (Asbestos Project Manager required experience)
    • As well as one or all of the following (Air Sampling Professional required experience):
      • 520 hours of on-site experience in general indoor air pollution sampling
      • An Illinois Industrial Hygienist License
      • An Industrial Hygienist Certification from ABIH
      • 2,080 hours of onsite experience in air sampling for asbestos on abatement projects under the supervision of a licensed Air Sampling Professional.
  • Qualified applicants will be required to be in a medical surveillance program and should be healthy enough to pass a physical and pulmonary function test for wearing a tight-fitting respirator.
  • NICET, ACI, and / or DOT certification is strongly desired.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 80lbs in and out of truck beds with the ability to walk across uneven terrain at job sites.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be capable of working outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work independently or with others in a safe, organized, and productive manner.
  • Must be able to work with others as a team in a friendly and acceptable manner.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and an ethical individual with great work ethic.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a fast learner and willing to train for many different testing procedures.
