Klingner & Associates, P.C. has worked as the design professional on numerous Design/Build projects throughout the Midwest. Projects include;

A 10 MGD wastewater facility expansion for Kankakee Water Company at University Park (suburban Chicago, IL) with Bowen Engineering of Indianapolis, IN;
Wis-Pak Construction for Pepsi Bottling Facility (168,000 sq. ft.) in Quincy, Illinois with Bleigh Construction, Hannibal, MO;
Resource Recovery/Continental Cement Company Inc. Thermo desorber unit building and containment facilities with Riedel Industrial Waste Management, Inc. and Bleigh Construction;
C + T Refinery, Charlotte, N.C. and Quincy Soybean, Quincy, Illinois Acidulation Facilities and Packaging building with Bleigh Construction; and
Drieselman Manufacturing (15,000 sq. ft.) facilities with Maas Construction, Quincy Illinois.

Design/build typically allows a faster completion schedule with the client having a clearer picture of total project cost early in the project. The client also has a more direct working relationship with the contractor. Disadvantages are that final plans and specifications are not completed and reviewed by the client or regulatory agencies prior to construction. Most governmentally funded projects require conventional design and competitive construction bidding procedures. As each construction project is unique, the decision of utilizing conventional design or design/build should be evaluated in detail.
